“Ukraine now more than ever is in need of support from our European partners. In fact, future of all Europe is being determined here and now in Ukraine, and according to the way in which it will all result depends all those European values that have been approved for centuries, and which is one of the greatest achievements of European citizens”, - stated Gia Getsadze, Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine during an International round table meeting on the topic “Geopolitical dilemmas, successes and challenges on the way towards European integration in Ukraine”, organized by the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
He reminded that Ukraine is considered the most peace loving country in the world, because it voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons in the 90s, realizing how important it is to maintain peace and tranquility.
According to Gia Getsadze war in Ukraine is a war of values, and the West must realize that Ukraine primarily protects these European values.
“At the same time we understand that we promote these values by resolving our internal problems. Our current priority task is combating corruption, openness, transparency and accountability to the public. We are doing, and we will continue to do so in the future”, - emphasized the Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine.
Gia Getsadze believes that the West doesn’t always understand the necessity of a more clear and decisive position when referring to the aggressor state. Such lack of awareness from the West is being used by the Russian Federation.
“In our turn, we are ready to resolve issues that occur on our way to European integration, and we hope for understanding and support from our European partners”, - he emphasized.
