Chernivtsi pretrial detention centre, located in the centre of the city, will cease its work and become inactive by the end of this year. Such a statement has been made during a working visit to Chernivtsi region by the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko.
“14 individuals serving life sentence, apart from those arrested, are currently being held at Chernivtsi pretrial detention centre. I have instructed that within 2 days they must be convoyed from the detention centre”, - stated the Minister.
Pavlo Petrenko emphasized that it is unacceptable for individuals serving life sentence to be located right in the city centre, near a school and a university.
“Another extremely important decision for Chernivtsi – by the end of the year Chernivtsi pretrial detention centre will cease its work and become inactive. There can’t and mustn’t be a prison in the city centre”, - summarized the Minister.
